The Dunedin City Council is ''stoked'' after yesterday's street appeal raised thousands of dollars for flooding victims.
Volunteers collected from 14 sites around the city from noon yesterday and by 4.30pm had collected $4845, council services and development general manager Simon Pickford said.
But, with money from Mosgiel yet to be counted, and a collection to be taken at today's Farmers Market, it was hoped the total could yet top $6000.
''We are really stoked. It's a fantastic result from a street appeal we organised at very short notice. It would be great if we got to the $6000 mark by the end of the weekend.''
The money would be added to the Mayoral Relief Fund to support flooding victims, which was boosted this week by a $100,000 donation announced by Civil Defence Minister Nikki Kaye on Wednesday.
