Q and A with composer and jazz pianist Mike Nock.

Been to Dunedin before?
Several times, dating from the first time I played there with Michael Houstoun with the Civic Orchestra in May 1982. Michael played Beethoven's 4th Piano Concerto, I played Nock's first (Aotearoa).

What do you know about Dunedin?
I know Dunedin as a very welcoming city with a strong interest in, and appreciation for, the arts.

What do you hope people will get from your performance?
I hope my music might stir some positive feelings towards life in general and that some in the audience might be inspired to follow their passion in life.

What do you enjoy most about performing?
I'm very aware of the special privilege it affords me to express and communicate my deepest feelings to others.

How do you relax away from work?
I love swimming, reading and the occasional glass of wine.

What would you be doing if it wasn't this?
First choice would be a visual artist, then maybe an author, after which I might indulge my love for nature and spend my time bushwalking and star-gazing.
