Art and money go together at the Dunedin School of Art's annual symposium this week.
''Art and Money: An Unholy Alliance'' is a collaboration between the art school and University of Otago marketing department, which will explore the connections between art and money from different perspectives.
''Every symposium we have is between the art school and some part of the university,'' organiser and art history and theory senior lecturer Peter Stupples said.
''We started in 2009, exploring art and science; followed by art and law, art and medicine and, last year, art and food.''
The day-long ''Art and Money: An Unholy Alliance'' symposium on Friday will feature national and international speakers, including Auckland Art Gallery curator Mary Kisler and Sydney theatre director Jewell Homad-Johnson, covering topics including the symbolism of money in Renaissance art, the relationship between art and value in the art market, and the funding of the arts and art education.
The symposium is free and open to the public.
An exhibition featuring artists David Green, Andrew Hurle, Blair Kennedy, Andrea McSweeney, Kerry MacKay, Pamela Brown, Kiri-Marie Mitchell, Kristin Perren, Paul Sewter, Marion Wassenaar and university marketing students is at the Dunedin School of Art until Friday.
