Sour about a lunch

According to Murray Fraser, there is no such thing as a free lunch.

The 48-year-old Dunedin man has been issued with a two-year trespass notice from Dunedin Casino, following a dispute about meal vouchers.

The vouchers entitled the bearer to one free lunch during September - a rule the casino claim was broken by Mr Fraser.

Visiting the casino at noon on September 26, Mr Fraser tried to use his voucher when "I was accosted by a staff member" who told him he had already used the voucher earlier that month.

"It made me feel annoyed, of being accused of something I have nothing to do with."

After a brief argument, the staff member accepted the voucher and Mr Fraser thought the issue was resolved, only to be issued with a trespass notice by a security guard on October 1.

Mr Fraser was told the reason for the trespass notice was because he had used the free lunch voucher twice in the same month and also abused staff members - claims he vehemently denies.

A frequent visitor to the casino, Mr Fraser said he was not a big spender and preferred to play free housie at the casino rather than gamble.

"If we choose to gamble, that is your prerogative; if we don't gamble, that is your prerogative as well."

Dunedin Casino general manager Nick Winder said he rejected the notion Mr Fraser was banned because he did not gamble at the casino.

Mr Fraser had misused the voucher system and abused a staff member who "was very upset", Mr Winder said.

It was unlikely the trespass decision would be overturned, he said.
