Douglas, Deeks, Fitz or Ayla — who would you bet on?

The four dogs were just some of the hundreds that took part in the Otago Canine Training Club’s championships at Forrester Park in Dunedin at the weekend.

Show manager Adele Smith said about 80 trainers, most with multiple dogs, came to the event to show off what their pups were made of.

The dogs had to navigate tunnels, dash between weaving poles, scale A-frames, leap over hurdles and brave the seesaw, all while keeping on track and avoiding any faults.

Some dogs struggled to follow the lead of their trainer and found themselves distracted, while others shot through the course with flying colours.

At the end of the track trainers rewarded their dogs with a treat.

Chrissie Neaves fed her dog Deeks a bit of sliced saveloy, while Richard Powkey gave Fitz a small cube of dog roll.

Mr Powkey said the 5-year-old Sydney Silky cross had been training since he was a pup.

He was doing all right on Saturday morning, but there was still a lot of courses to go in the two-day event.
