Dunedin City Council transport delivery manager Josh Von Pein said sections of the bank below Tennyson St had slipped away during heavy rain in July 2017.
Further damage had occurred as a result of heavy rain in February last year, he said.
The council's contractor, Downer, was repairing the bank by installing a retaining wall and guard rail barrier, and re-grassing the slope.
The work included changes to underground services and reinstatement of the road for bus use.
Work was going well and was expected to be completed in September, he said.
