The candles formed a love heart on the path and cascaded down the church steps, each one lit in memory of a person who died by suicide in New Zealand last year.
The event was held for World Suicide Prevention Day and involved inspirational speeches and performances from local talent.
Trust co-founder Cordina Taylor said it was another way of bringing the community together and allowing those who were struggling to reach out for help.
Ms Kent said while much heartbreak was expressed during the evening, there was also a lot of inspiration.
‘‘What we are offering is hope ... if nothing else.’’
The number of guests was limited to 100 due to Covid-19 restrictions.
