Second phase of redundancies

Seventy-one confectioners, supervisors and on-site tradespeople will leave Dunedin's Cadbury factory progressively during the next year, as the second phase of redundancies takes place.

Cadbury signalled about 145 jobs would go in August, last year, when it announced it was upgrading and modernising equipment in its Dunedin chocolate making factory.

In March, 71 confectioners took voluntary redundancy.

Corporate communication manager Daniel Ellis said those who would be made redundant over the next year included employees who had requested voluntary redundancy or did not want to be redeployed.

"This is a sad time for the team at Dunedin, as no-one ever wants to see their colleagues and friends leave.

"We have worked very hard to ensure the redundancy process has been fair and that our people have been informed of these changes every step of the way."

Those who were made redundant would receive free financial and careers counselling to help them make decisions about their future, he said.

The $51 million factory upgrade was on track for completion in 2010.
