Principal Janice Tofia said the school had worked hard over the past three years to create a "holistic healthy environment" for its pupils, and was delighted their efforts had been recognised.
The school is only the fifth in Otago to receive the prestigious award, she said.
"We're ecstatic.
"We've worked hard to change our lifestyle practices.
"We offer only healthy food options at school.
"Families have supported that, and children are coming to school with healthy lunches now.
"We've also increased the level of healthy activity at school, we are sun-safe, and the children are also taught to keep themselves emotionally healthy."
To achieve a Gold Award, school canteens and lunchrooms are expected to have made enough changes to their menu to be able to offer a variety of foods that include breads and cereals; fruit and vegetables; milk and milk products; snacks low in fat, sugar and salt; and clean fresh water.
The environment at Gold Award schools supports consistent messages about healthy eating through the availability and promotion of healthy menu choices, as well as classroom and community activities, Mrs Tofia said.
