This big unit of structural scaffolding, about 30m wide and 60m long, and believed to be the biggest of its kind in Dunedin, has been moved into position by mobile crane above a large part of the main block at Mercy Hospital.

Hospital chief executive officer Richard Whitney said progress by Bramwell Scaffolding in installing the protective structure since last week had been smooth, and a tent-like covering would be added to coming days.

This would protect the block’s second level while an extensive redevelopment of that area took place, to increase the hospital’s overnight bed numbers, Mr Whitney said.
