Santa’s secret weapon: lollipops

Barbies, dinosaurs and bikes were at the top of Dunedin children’s lists for Christmas presents from Santa this year.

Santa Claus is taking time out of his busy schedule to visit Meridian Mall from 10am to 4pm every day until Christmas Eve.

He and his helpers are sharing Christmas cheer by taking photos with the children and listening to their wishes.

Wishes included remote-controlled cars from boys and Squishmallows from girls.

"You get unusual ones like horses and elephants but I can’t fit them in my bag," Mr Claus said.

No-one deserved a piece of coal this year because everyone had mostly been nice, he said.

"Kids can get naughty now and again but mostly they’re nice."

Mr Claus said there was the odd squirmy child who would start crying but as soon as he gave them a lollipop they were all right.

He was pleased to see that there were so many babies this year, and there was one who was only a day old.

Two-year-old Cleo Cole gave Mr Claus a big hug and received a lollipop.

She asked for a new bike, a Polly Pocket and some chocolate.

Photos with Mr Claus cost $20, which included a print, digital file and frame.

Additional prints were $5 each.
