A safe containing cash and prescription medicine has been ''ripped out of the wall'' of a home in the Dunedin suburb of Caversham.
Senior Sergeant Liz Waru, of Dunedin, said the house in Neville St was entered via a window that was forced open on Friday morning.
More than $1000 was in the safe.
Police had identified suspects for the burglary and they were likely known to the victim, Snr Sgt Waru said.
''Somebody must have known it was there.
''There is nothing to indicate how they got it out of the wall,'' she said.
Inquiries were continuing.
