On the right, on a pedestal next to a security guard described by Rugby World Cup 2011 chief executive Martin Snedden as "deadly" sat the William Webb Ellis trophy.
On the left, on a plastic stool, stealing the show with an unmistakable sense of the moment, teetered Oscar Ung (3), encased in golden foam.
The Dunedin boy stole the show yesterday morning as the Octagon was overrun by rugby fans when the World Cup Roadshow continued its nationwide tour.
Oscar's reward as best dressed was two tickets to see Scotland play Romania at Rugby Park Stadium, Invercargill, on September 10.
Oscar's aunty, Liz Ung (28), who said it took about three hours to make the costume, was excited Oscar and his mother, Tammy, would be making the trip south for the match.
"I'm not particularly a rugby fan myself. I just came down to support my nephew and sister-in-law," she said.
Mr Snedden, who will accompany the trophy for three weeks during its month-long tour, was delighted with the crowd in the Octagon in Dunedin.
