Rush on electricity funding expected

Anglican Family Care expects to be inundated with applications once funding for Dunedin's Electricity Consumers Fund is topped up later this month.

Child and family support service manager Kathy Dowall said the Dunedin City Council funding had been approved but was not expected to come through until the end of the month.

The $176,000 fund from the previous financial year ran out six months before it was due to be replenished.

This year it was boosted to $200,000 "which gives us more money for applications", she said.

About 800 applications were made last year and she expected the number to remain the same this year.

"I would imagine we would get quite an inundation."

The organisation also planned to be "quite strategic" with the funding to ensure it did not run out early.

People could apply for a one-off grant of up to $200, or if they had been receiving budgeting advice for more than six weeks they might be able to access up to $350, Ms Dowall said.
