The Mosgiel Round Table has given more than $2000 to the Otago Rescue Helicopter Trust.

The community group raised the money at a fundraising event earlier this year.

Members of the group and their families visited the trust last Wednesday to present the money and look through the premises at the Taieri Airfield.

''[Otago Rescue Helicopter paramedic] Ian [Ridley] gave a talk about the helicopter trust and we had a look through,'' Mosgiel Round Table treasurer and past-president Grant Gibson said.

''They also had the new helicopter, which is almost finished, which we had a look through as well.''

The group's secretary, Wayne McFarlane, gave the trust a cheque for $2300 during the tour.

The money was raised during the Mosgiel Round Table's 50th anniversary celebrations earlier this year.

The group held an auction to raise the funds.

''A lot of our guys are out there doing things, motorbike riding etc, and you never know when you are going to need it, so it's important,'' Mr Gibson said.

The point was emphasised when a friend of Mr McFarlane's required the rescue helicopter.

''Wayne was up at an event and the guy he was with fell off the back of a trailer and smacked his head and they needed to call the helicopter, so Wayne has had first-hand experience of the good work they do and the impact they have,'' Mr Gibson said.

''It really hit home that it could happen at any time.''

The man also gave some money to the trust as a result of the experience, which was presented along with the round table's donation, Mr Gibson said.

The group, which is open to all men between the ages of 18 and 45, meets regularly and is always looking for new members.
