Roof tiles go as restoration of old prison proceeds

A crane was on site lifting pallets of roof tiles out of the former Dunedin prison yesterday as preparations begin for stage 2 of its restoration.

Renovations will include refurbishing the roof, reinstating two front gate pillars and completing exterior repairs and refurbishment of the cellblocks.

The project will begin mid-September and is expected to be completed by mid-March next year.
