Scarlett Cleaver, 3, and sister Mila, 7, of Maheno in North Otago, enjoy a day with the family at the Waikouaiti Rodeo yesterday. Their father Jack and brother Codee were competing. "We come every year," their mother Casey Cleaver said.

Waikouaiti welcomed 2025 with its rodeo event on New Year’s Day. Bulls, calves, horses and riders were watched by an observant crowd and food and beverages were for sale at the sports ground. Photographer Gerard O’Brien went along.
