A whole lot of home-kill meat and a prized piece of horse riding gear were among the items reported burgled to Southern police towards the end of this week.
Senior Sergeant Trevor Thomson, of Dunedin, said between Wednesday and Thursday someone entered a garage in Carson St, Mornington, before making off with thousands of dollars worth of meat.
"The offender has gone down beside the vehicle into the freezer at the back of the garage and removed a large quantity of home-kill, which was venison and pork.
"And that could have a quantity of up to $2000."
Over the hill in Mosgiel, a Western-style horse girth strap and some Ariat work boots went walking after being left "outside the front" of a Bush Rd home on Tuesday or Wednesday, Snr Sgt Thomson said.
In the early hours of Thursday morning a car smashed into the door of Sims Pacific Metals, but nothing was taken.
Snr Sgt Thomson said nothing was reported missing from the Wharf St business, though police inquiries were ongoing.
"They could have gone inside, but nothing was taken."
