Rational thinker clicks with camera

It may seem challenging to capture self management in a photo, but Rotary Park School pupil Katie Gotlieb mastered it.

She came second in the primary photography section of the TiG National Schools Challenge held last month.

Faced with the task of taking one photo a day for a week which related to the New Zealand curriculum key competencies of thinking, using language, symbols and texts, managing self, relating to others, participating and contributing, Katie rose to the challenge.

"It's just a matter of thinking. You've got to really look around and see what objects you've got to help set up the photos," she said.

The judges described her photos as fun and technically good.

Katie said she hoped to pursue photography.

Other areas of the competition were music, design, maths and story.

Of the 24 other pupils awarded a prize, she was the only South Islander.
