A Reilly's Towage and Salvage driver hooks up a utility vehicle to tow it up a bank on the Northern Motorway about 200m from the entrance to Dunedin yesterday afternoon.

The small truck was one of several vehicles that left the road over the weekend, as heavy rain caused drivers difficulties on Saturday.

Police urged motorists to drive to the conditions after a series of crashes in the rain across the South.

Elsewhere on Saturday, a car rolled in Three Mile Hill Rd, near Dunedin, about 1pm on Saturday.

A van rolled over about an hour earlier on State Highway 6, the Five Rivers-Lumsden Highway, near Ellis Rd. There were no reports of injuries.
