Rain on way for Monday

This week's fine weather is forecast to disappear on Queen's Birthday Monday, with unsettled conditions and rain expected in Otago on the last day of the long weekend.

During Saturday, rain was expected to spread into northern and western parts of both islands, but skies over eastern areas should be fine, MetService weather ambassador Bob McDavitt said.

"There is a slight cloud on your horizon," he cautioned, saying while Sunday would be mainly dry and mild for eastern areas, by Monday rain was expected in Central Otago, Dunedin, Queenstown and Wanaka.

Air temperatures during the weekend were expected to be relatively mild, he said.
