Homemade rafts will once again race down the Taieri River, at this year's Outram raft race.
The event has been organised for Sunday, November 3 and will start about 11am, above Outram Glen.
Organiser Carl Gardner said it usually took participants an hour or two to finish the race, depending on the flow of the river.
Any materials could be used to make rafts, except inflatable objects like air beds and tyre tubes, he said.
It cost $40 to enter a raft and the winner ''takes all'', Mr Gardner said.
''Last year we had about eight rafts.''
The event was organised as a ''bit of fun'', but safety was paramount and all participants were required to wear life jackets, he said.
Older children could be included, if accompanied by adults.
''A few young ones do it, but not too young, for safety reasons. We also have a jet ski and boat in the river with the rafts, as a precaution.''
The race would be held rain or shine, but would be postponed if the river level was too high.
