Forbury Park Trotting Club has put plans to move the Wingatui racecourse on hold and is now looking at upgrading its Forbury Park facilities in Dunedin.
"We are not expecting any progress on the possibility of the Forbury Park Club shifting to Wingatui for some time," club chief executive Ian Woodhouse said.
"In view of this situation, we are likely to go ahead with the redevelopment of facilties at Forbury Park."
He attended a meeting at Forbury Park on Wednesday with club president Alan Clyma, board members Peter Fraser and Ray Hanson, New Zealand Racing Board chief executive Andrew Brown, Gallop South representative Malcolm Little and Otago Greyhound Club representative John Carlyle.
"Five options for locating a harness track at Wingatui were raised and the Racing Board will come back on costings for the two most practical suggestions."
The options emanated from a feasibility study commissioned by the Racing Board after an approach to the Forbury Park club from the Otago Racing Club, proprietor of the Wingatui racecourse.
"The possibility of a shift is unlikely in the near future because of a raft of issues including the the economic downtown. Funding is a huge issue," Mr Woodhouse said.
