Mosgiel man Paul Wolland was the first to buy tickets at the Regent Theatre yesterday for Black Sabbath's concert at Forsyth Barr Stadium next April.

The queue wasn't exactly out the door and down the road, but Paul Wolland made sure he didn't miss out.

The Mosgiel man secured the first 10 tickets to go on sale at the Regent Theatre yesterday for next year's Black Sabbath concert in Dunedin.

Mr Wolland (42) was one of about a dozen people waiting for noon when tickets went on sale for the Ozzy Osbourne-fronted band's Dunedin show on April 30.

He bought the tickets for himself and his friends and could not wait for the show.

''For [Ozzy Osbourne] to still be alive after what he's been through is reason enough to go,'' Mr Wolland said.

He was looking forward to the atmosphere at the stadium and the song War Pigs which ''would have to be a favourite''.

''The boss better give me the time off,'' Mr Wolland joked.

Dunedin Venues Management Ltd marketing and communications manager Kim Barnes said there was a lot of interest in the lead-up to the public sale.

She could not give a number of expected sales but suggested the show would ''go close'' to selling out.

Other shows held at the stadium recently had sold well.

Rod Stewart has attracted about 22,000 in April and ''in excess of 30,000'' tickets had been sold for Fleetwood Mac's November 18 concert.

Ms Barnes said there were ''still some tickets available'' for Neil Diamond on October 24.
