A pop-up charity op shop that took over a George St shopfront on Friday and Saturday raised more than its target amount in just one day, Geraldine Henderson (21) said.

The two-day sale raised $6500.

''Our initial target was $3500 over the two days, so we've gone well above what we expected,'' Ms Henderson, a University of Otago economics student and member of the fledging organising group New Rotary Generation Dunedin, said.

The event was the first run by NRG Dunedin, which was founded in June.

Proceeds would go towards buying Cuddlecots for Dunedin and Wellington Hospitals.

Cuddlecots are a cooling system that lets parents spend time with stillborn babies before their funerals.

The $3500 figure represented the cost of a Cuddlecot.
