A police pursuit which started in the Dunedin suburb of Caversham early this morning was abandoned after the fleeing car reached dangerous speeds.
A police spokesman said the chase started on Sydney St at 4.42am.
The fleeing saloon was last seen travelling down Brighton Rd heading towards Blackhead before the chase was abandoned.
Earlier Invercargill police abandoned a chase, also due to the speed of the fleeing car, which started in the suburb of Grassmere at 1.38am.
Police later found an abandoned hatchback and tracked down two occupants, who had escaped on foot, who were taken into custody.
