A police spokeswoman said they were called to the crash on SH1 where a truck had rolled near the intersection of Kapiti Rd at 11.47am.
The highway was blocked and the highway closed for some time.
A police spokeswoman said one lane on the highway opened just before 1pm.
Both lanes were expected to be open by about 4pm, she said.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

NZ Transport Agency issued a notice warning motorists the road was closed and to expect delays.
A motorist at the scene said cars were backed up for kilometres.
