Police were called to help shut down a large Castle St party on Monday night as students celebrated their return to Dunedin.
This week marks Flat O Week, the week before Orientation when many students move into their flats.
It is traditionally marked with several large parties in the student area throughout the week.
Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen said police were called to Castle St to assist with a large party.
A few pre-charge warnings were handed out, and one man who ‘‘got a bit lippy’’ with an officer was taken back to the police station, and later released.
Snr Sgt Dinnissen urged students taking part in the festivities to look after their flatmates, and register their parties with police so they could help organise them safely.
‘‘We don’t want to have to ruin any parties,’’ he said.
The University of Otago did not respond to a request for comment by deadline.
