Two women with an apparent penchant for motels and a taste for curry are wanted by police after allegedly racking up thousands of dollars in unpaid bills across Otago.

Police are appealing for sightings of Hosannah Suafoa and Paia Munro (both 20), who are wanted for allegedly defrauding motels and restaurants since late December.

Senior Sergeant Mel Aitken said the pair had targeted "multiple motels" in the greater Dunedin area, leaving behind thousands of dollars in unpaid accommodation and room service bills.

Their modus operandi involved turning up late at night, when less experienced staff often worked, and writing a worthless cheque, she said.

The women were going to places which took cheques, such as restaurants, most notably Indian curry houses, she said.

The women appeared to be of no fixed abode and were going from "motel to motel", Snr Sgt Aitken said. They were believed to be still in the South Island.

Anyone who spotted the pair was urged to contact police.
