All bets are off as police and officials remain tight-lipped over an armed robbery at the South Dunedin branch of the TAB on Saturday night.
The Hillside Rd business was closed for the day yesterday and a scene guard was in place for the morning as police forensics specialists and detectives scoured the premises for clues about the man wanted in connection with the incident.
It is understood a man wearing a skeleton mask and brandishing a sawn-off shotgun took an undisclosed amount of cash from a safe as two employees hid behind a counter.
The offender has been on the run since the robbery about 8pm on Saturday.
Afterwards, armed police and a dog unit searched the area.
A male staff member at the branch yesterday and the staff members working at the TAB at the time of the robbery were not prepared to comment to the ODT yesterday and a TAB head office spokeswoman said the Dunedin area services manager would not be commenting on the incident.
Police were not prepared to answer questions about a possible link to the robbery of Mobil Forbury on Hillside Rd on June 13, when three masked men armed with a gun and sword took cash and cigarettes.
"The investigation is still in the early stages and no further information is available at this time,'' a police media spokeswoman said.
Police want to talk to members of the public who may have noticed suspicious activity in the area around the time of the TAB hold-up.
