Dunedin police are investigating a series of fires on Kaikorai Valley Rd this morning.
Detective Sergeant Chris Henderson said six fires were lit along the road between 1.45am and 3.30am.
Three were lit in wheelie bins, one in a letterbox, one in a New Zealand Post post box, and another in paper stacked against a fence.
''All ended up relatively minor, but all had the potential to become a disaster and police are obviously really concerned,'' he said.
Police completed area inquiries today but urged members of the public who saw any suspicious behaviour about the time of the fires to contact them on (03) 471-4800.
