A car was impounded for 28 days yesterday after its driver reached speeds of more than 130kmh in a 50kmh area.
Constable Peter Bevin said a police pursuit began at 9.50am yesterday, when the driver of a white Honda Integra with a spoiler on the back drove through traffic on Andersons Bay Rd without indicating.
When police went to stop the vehicle, the driver drove around numerous stationary cars down Hillside Rd, before joining the motorway near Carisbrook.
The vehicle reached speeds over 130kmh as it pulled away from police in a 50kmh zone and the pursuit was called off.
Thanks to a member of the public, a partial licence plate number was supplied. Police were able to track down the car and it has been impounded for 28 days.
However, police would like to talk to the motorist who supplied the registration number, and any other motorist who may have seen the car, which had been last seen heading down Riselaw Rd towards Green Island.
The driver would be charged with failing to stop, and further charges were likely, Const Bevin said.
