It will once again be a case of "on your bike" for police officers following the success of an e-bike trial.

Dunedin was one of four centres around the country where officers took to the streets on their bikes as part of a road safety trial in February.

The trial was so successful, it will be wheeled out around the country.

A police spokeswoman said the trial proved effective for engagement and visibility, giving police a new level of accessibility.

"The e-bikes meant officers were able to be out in the community for longer periods of time, covering greater distances, without getting fatigued."

The Covid-19 outbreak delayed fully evaluating the initial trial, but it was good enough to expand trials across more districts.

"Work is being done with districts on this next phase."

"There will be more information around the evaluation of the initial trial and the planning and execution of the proposed broader trials as it becomes available."
