"Driver inexperience" was believed to be the cause of a two-car collision on State Highway 87 near Outram yesterday, police said.
The crash occurred on the Taieri River Bridge, near George King Memorial Dr, about 2pm.
Constable Amie Manning, of Dunedin, said it appeared inexperience had led to the crash, as the 18-year-old driver of a Mazda ute was on her learner's licence.
The woman was taken to Dunedin Hospital with minor injuries.
Senior Sergeant Brian Benn, of Dunedin, said it appeared the crash was caused after one of the drivers failed to give way.
Two adults and a young child in the other vehicle, a Holden Colorado ute, were unharmed in the crash.
Two ambulances, a fire engine and three police cars were at the scene.
One lane of the bridge was closed for more than an hour as the crash site was cleared.
