Poet Kyra Gillies will premiere her spoken-word poetry show ''Pissed Off! Passionate and Hopeful'' at the Dunedin Fringe Festival tonight.
The 20-year-old University of Otago student will be supported by Dunedin poets Jerome Robinson and Logan Park High School pupil Isla Thomas (17).
The koha show aimed to get people ''angry and motivated'' about social issues including climate change, consumer culture, gender, racial and queer justice, homelessness, incarceration, mental health cuts, racism, sexual violence, students' rights, water quality and wealth inequality.
The ''angry and hopeful poetic rant'' fused art, academia and activism, she said.
The rhyme, rhythm and social commentary of her original work would ''comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable''.
The Dunedin Slam Collective member would recite her anti-capitalist comedy poem Capitalism is About to Give Birth.
''This is spoken poetry for social change, a show in which the performance will be driven by a ravenous hunger for a better world.''
