Rowdy protesters decrying university cuts greeted Prime Minister Chris Hipkins at the University of Otago this afternoon.

Mr Hipkins is on a quickfire visit to the city, touring the Hillside workshops site and local gaming companies.

At the university a group of protesters had gathered, mirroring the rally on Wednesday when 400 staff and students marched through the campus in opposition to looming job losses and cuts to courses.

Amid a heavy police presence at least one vocal  activist was escorted out of the Union Hall where Mr Hipkins was speaking.
