So to keep his three-course Ukraine fundraising dinner relevant, he has promised there will be a traditional Ukrainian borscht.
The sour soup made with red beetroot is common in Eastern Europe and Northern Asia, and is most often associated with Ukraine.
"I’ve been watching the Russian invasion unfold on television and I’m quite new to having my own business, and it just occurred to me that this was something I could do quite easily — making pizza to help those in Ukraine."
The Slice of Heaven owner is passionate about this and has roped in other local businesses to help raise as much money as possible.
Mr West said as well as borscht and pizza, the dinner would have desserts from Patti’s and Cream, followed by some after-dinner entertainment by local musicians and a poet.
The event would be held at the Leith Bowling Club on September 3 and all proceeds would be given to the Serhiy Prytula Charitable Foundation, he said.
The foundation provides both military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
Mr West said he hoped more events could be held in the future.
