When Pink came to Dunedin and got the party started at Forsyth Barr Stadium, the city and wider region benefited to the tune of of $14 million.

Dunedin Venues Management Ltd  chief executive Terry Davies said he was "suitably pleased" with the results of the economic impact report for the September 1 concert, when almost 38,000 fans packed the stadium.

"It has been an enormous year for concerts under the roof.

"Pink’s performance was incredible and the atmosphere was electric! Once again, the buzz around the city was noticeable.

"With Shania Twain still to come, we will be looking at an economic impact of about $65 million from concerts alone for 2018," Mr Davies said.

A total of 4722 surveys showed most of the 37,944 concert tickets sold went to people from outside Dunedin (68%), half of whom were from Canterbury.

Who pays for these reports and why? How accurate are they, surely the figures can only be estimates with alot of guess work? Are theses reports done independently? I suspect these reports are published purely for political back slapping reasons only. A report dose not change anything, it is the action taken as a result of the report that matters and if no action is taken then it is a waste of money unless the results are used for marketing or political reasons. In which case why and how can we trust them?
