Work to renew two ageing piles for a relatively new floating pontoon at the Otago Yacht Club was under way in North Dunedin this week.

On Wednesday, Port Otago removed the old piles, yacht club vice-commodore Peter Wilhelmsen said.

On Thursday, two new 11.5m piles were driven into position 23m offshore using Port Otago’s pile driving plant (pictured left), he said.

The piles replaced those that were not fit to be used for the floating pontoon.

An existing walkway would be connected to the floating pontoon next week, Mr Wilhelmsen said.
