A 73-year-old pedestrian was flung on to the bonnet of a truck after the driver ran an orange light at a Dunedin intersection over the weekend, police say.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said police responded to a car crash at the intersection of Frederick and Malcolm Sts about 8.50am on Saturday.

A 67-year-old male driver towing a trailer of firewood allegedly ran an orange light, turned into the outer lane of the one-way and hit a 73-year-old woman crossing the road.

She ‘‘had gone up on the bonnet of the vehicle and sustained a head injury’’, Snr Sgt Bond said.

The woman was taken to hospital and police would follow-up once she recovered, he said.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said one person was taken to Dunedin Hospital in a serious condition.
