Being able to keep up with the kids, and have a bit of social adult time, were two reasons Maria Hunt encouraged parents to get involved with the Computers in Homes programme.

She and 14 other Forbury School parents recently graduated from the 20-hour training course, which taught them the basics of computer literacy.

After seeing computers in early childhood centres, Ms Hunt knew she "better keep up with the kids".

Being able to help the children with their homework was key to her taking up the opportunity, which was offered through the school.

Forbury School principal Janice Tofia said the programme was an example of the school community working together.

The programme was undertaken at the school, and then each family took home a refurbished computer and equipment, and the school received a pod of seven computers for the library, courtesy of the Computers in Homes programme trust.
