Dunedin fire service vehicles were given an unexpected paint job after overspray drifted across from the new hospital build.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokeswoman said some of its vehicles and staff at the Dunedin City Station were affected "to varying degrees" by an overspray of white paint from the neighbouring new Dunedin hospital build.

"Despite a protective screen being used, some paint spray drift did occur."

The affected vehicles were parked in the station’s outdoor yard, leaving their fire trucks housed inside the engine bay unaffected.

The paint spray drift occurred over a period of two to three weeks from early May, but the ODT was told about it last week.

It did not cause any disruption to the station’s operations, the spokeswoman said.

Health New Zealand head of infrastructure delivery Blake Lepper said HNZ was aware some vehicles had been affected by paint overspray during construction work on the new hospital. He understood the matter was being resolved by the contractor involved.
