Family and friends of two University of Otago students still missing after the Christchurch earthquake are "hoping for a miracle".
Sisi Xin (28), a dietetics student based in Christchurch, and Didem Yaman (31), a Dunedin politics PhD student, were last seen in the suburb of Avonside on the morning of the quake.
It was believed the friends were heading to the central city about 11.30am.
Both have been reported missing to the Red Cross and police.
Ms Xin's boyfriend Soon Jee Low said there had been no news of her whereabouts since the quake struck.
He had been "pushing the police a little bit" but knew they were doing everything they could to find her.
"We just really have to be hoping and waiting for news.
"We really need a miracle, actually, we are hoping and praying for one," Mr Low said.
Ms Yaman's friend Gamze O'Neill said nothing had been heard about her yet.
"Everybody is quite upset," she said.
The Chinese Embassy placed a missing persons advertisement for Ms Xin and Ms Yaman yesterday.
