The Dunedin Children’s Chamber Choir is heading up to Auckland next week for the World Choir Games — the biggest choral event in the world.
Choral director Natasha Manowitz said the pupils were "all really excited".
A part of the event was the Parade of Nations on Auckland’s Queen St on Tuesday, involving at least 250 choir groups.
"There’s going to be countries from all over the world parading down central Auckland."
Ms Manowitz was requesting help from the Dunedin public to acquire Dunedin- and Otago-themed banners and flags the choir could use to better represent their community during the parade.
The Dunedin team was competing in an open competition and would also be partaking in a friendship concert for the event.
"We are really proud to represent Dunedin and Otago especially, as one of the New Zealand choirs."
This year’s games, which started on Wednesday, was the first time the event had been held in Oceania.
Ms Manowitz said she had a strong passion for choir singing and had been singing in choirs around the country since she was young.
"There’s so much to love about choral music and singing in a choir and I think it comes down to that team approach where everyone feels like they’re singing as one.
"That’s what I really love about it. The children have done an amazing job and have been working really hard.
"We’re really excited to attend such a huge prestigious event and to have this fantastic opportunity."
Anyone able to help the choir with flags and banners is encouraged to contact Ms Manowitz through the Facebook page Dunedin Children’s Choir before the team heads to Auckland on Tuesday morning.
