One taken into custody after crash

A shirtless man walked away from a badly damaged car after it hit a tree at Corstorphine Park early yesterday.

A witness heard a screeching sound followed by a loud thud. The topless driver emerged from the car and proceeded to try to get it running, despite the vehicle having extensive damage to the engine bay, the witness said.

The man took items from the boot of his vehicle and proceeded off down the road with a box under his arm.

A police spokesman said they attended the incident at the intersection of Middleton and Corstorphine Rds at 12.30am.

No injuries were reported, one person was taken into custody and police inquiries were continuing, he said.
