A Hato Hone St John spokesman said it responded to the crash on Portobello Rd with a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance at 9.51am.
The person was in a serious condition and was treated and transported to Dunedin hospital.
Hato Hone St John also responded to another crash involving a motorbike and car in Shetland St in Wakari at 11.22am.
One person was assessed but did not require treatment.
