A St John spokesman said one person was taken to Dunedin Hospital with moderate injuries.
A police spokeswoman said police were alerted to the incident just after 12.30pm.
Initial reports were that the incident happened in the northbound lanes near Saddle Hill.
Both lanes were blocked causing traffic to back up before the road was cleared.
Two fire crews were also at the scene.
