No-show snowfalls after wind changes

So what happened to the blanketing of snow expected in Otago during the weekend?

The MetService had forecast snow down to 100m for most of the region, but as of last night, the only places where residents saw snow fall were North and South Otago - and it was only a light dusting above 400m.

MetService duty forecaster Heath Gullery said the expected southerlies turned more westerly, which had created clear, sunny weather for most of Otago.

However, the wind was expected to turn southerly about midday today, which might bring snow showers down to 500m in the Dunedin area, he said.

That was not expected to affect roads in the area.

The forecast for the rest of the week until Friday was for cool, but sunny weather, he said.
