At a meeting yesterday, the council considered a requirement under the Local Government Act for it to consider establishing Maori constituencies.
It was first raised at an extraordinary meeting in August but the decision was reserved until the council had time to consult runanga.
Chairman Stephen Woodhead said feedback was that there was no support for setting up Maori constituencies in Otago.
Cr Louise Croot said electors, at any time, could demand a poll be held on the question of Maori constituencies and the council, at any time, could resolve that a poll be held.
The council passed a recommendation that it had considered the need for the constituencies and did not see the need for them.
