New field work starting soon

Construction of new artificial turf playing fields at Logan Park is set to begin next week.

The $3.9 million  project will result in two all-weather, multi-purpose fields, including an artificial cricket wicket, being completed towards the end of March 2019.

Group manager parks and recreation Robert West said the Dunedin City Council and Football South had been working together on the project for some time.

Football South drove fundraising for it.The council put $1 million towards the costs.

Once built, the fields would be owned and managed by the council.

The council would also provide infrastructure such as pathways, new markings and lighting, plantings, seating and a first aid building.

It was expected work would cause some disruption to recreational users in the area.Traffic management might be in place during construction.

The council had been working with sports groups and other organisations to identify alternative venues for use during the construction period.
